Event Description & Agenda

11:00am-12:00pm:*  Bernadette Rappold, Esquire, from Greenberg Traurig, LLP will present on President Trump’s regulatory reform agenda, how you can influence it, and what it means for the future of federal environmental regulation.  By executive order, the president has directed all executive branch agencies to establish task forces to identify regulations to be repealed, replaced, or modified.  In April, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a request for comments to aid EPA’s ongoing “Evaluation of Existing Regulations,” which sought to identify regulations that may be appropriate for repeal, replacement, or modification.  The agency received about 55,000 comments in response, the overwhelming majority of which called on the agency to leave regulations alone, with just a few commenters suggesting modest, technical changes to existing regulations.

Bernadette Rappold is a shareholder in Greenberg Traurig LLP’s Washington, DC office and served as an EPA director in the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance for over twelve years.  While serving as a director of the Special Litigation and Projects Division in the EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, Bernadette led complex enforcement actions in response to violations of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and other environmental statutes.  She now counsels clients from a variety of industries – including energy, biotech, manufacturing and agriculture – on compliance and permitting matters.  She also defends clients in civil and criminal enforcement actions and litigates rule challenges.

12:00pm-1:30pm: SWEP’s annual business meeting will begin immediately following the program and a catered lunch will be provided.  We encourage all SWEP members to attend.  Bring your ideas and creativity - this is your chance to get more involved and contribute to the future direction of your SWEP chapter!
